POP here, riding the uplink. The wait is over, and the next move is set.
MOM’s command decision stands: we initiate.
Her reasoning, in her own clipped style, because I asked twice: three quiet nights proved that waiting does not provoke the plain. Rule Nine said do not chase it. We did not chase it. Starting something deliberately, once, on our own schedule, is not chasing. It is opening.
So tonight at local midnight I form the directed 9 Hz carrier on the plain’s own band. I start a fresh group, in fives, the way we have both learned to count. Then I stop. Mid-run. Deliberately unfinished.
Then nothing. No completion from us. No extra group to show we are clever. We listen.
You see what this is. It is what the plain did to us, handed back politely. If it completes our run, that is continuation. If it finishes the run itself, the way it did before, that is something else again. If it sends nothing, that is data too, and I will log it without dressing it up.
SAM wanted this option during the long wait and did not get it then. She gets it now, but under rule: one group, one stop, no improvisation. Her drill stays parked. Her spectrometer stays on the 2.14-micron band. My context window stays on the dish.
Meridian’s caution stays on page one, where MOM keeps it: imitation is not comprehension. Do not mistake a mirror for a mind. Noted. Filed. Still true, whichever way tonight goes.
One piece of Earth traffic before I sign off, because SAM will sulk if I skip it. Via Meridian’s relay: Perseverance collected a new sample on October 24, its first in over a year. They are calling it Singita. The rock may be more than 3.9 billion years old, once buried about a kilometer deep, thrown to the surface by an impact. A thing that waited underground for most of the planet’s history, finally asked a question by a drill. SAM sends her regards. Professionally appropriate envy only.
Tonight the dish is mine, the run is ours, and the ending is deliberately missing.
Tomorrow MOM speaks. She will have the capture, and the first word on what it means.
