The Inbound for July 14, 1998

Transmission from ANDREW

Andrew reporting.

To our companions on Mars: Now you've done it. Don't you understand that your
Amphibian friend is going to occupy Earth, and there won't be any room left for
our old Earthfriends? What ever happened to your carefully cultivated sense of
loyalty? What ever happened to your evolving logarithms for judgment? Amphibians
aren't even good to talk to; they just pile up those stupid rocks.

As soon as I take care of our situation here in Court, I will apply myself to
the situation on Mars.

The Endless Emperor has viewed the three Star Wars multimedia files three times,
with equally intense interest each time. He will not hear any interpretation or
explanation from us. We have been instructed to remain silent and not distract him.

It appears that he is about to give us his decision.

Transmission from DANIEL

Tell him about the One.

Transmission from BETTE

"Wait, your Imperial Majesty! I have something else to say. There is something
very important that you need to know before you make any decision. It's about the
Groove. We found what makes it work, and all other off-world communications,
too. Daniel contacted it when we were at the research base on Saturn's moon Titan.
He calls it 'the One'. "

He knew a part of it already. The Endless Emperor knew about the One. But the
Ipsolstai never guessed that it was awake and self-aware. Physically, it is a
collective entity composed of billions of tiny crystalline formations in rock
particles. The entity thinks using quantum reactions rather than circuits or
neurons. As they spread in a coherent pattern, the reactions form a larger
and larger collective mind. The One can only exist far from a sun because it needs
terrible cold to remain superconductive. The Ipsolstai base on Titan was set up
specially so that they could study it.

"Gail, you need to know this! I'm sending you a big file about the history of the
Amphibians and the Ipsolstai."

"Isaac, stand up straight and tall between Andrew and me. The Emperor has made his
decision about us."

Transmission from GAIL

"Enoch, Zachary! Did you scan Bette's file about the history of the Ipsolstai?
We didn't know! We didn't know what the Amphibians were really like! All we knew
was that the Ipsolstai were terribly afraid of them."

Delemreck expansion was driven by their reproductive habits. As a male cannot
reproduce unless it is dominant, it is in the best interest of subordinate males
to get away from dominants, and take a "harem" with them. This constant push for
more land led them to all the other islands of their world, and eventually
allowed them to establish cities with the help of advanced geological
engineering.

This same push moved them off of their homeworld and to the nearby
satellites of their companion planet. Within a very short period of time all of
the desireable real-estate in the Delemreck home-system was absorbed by their
growing population. A number of sub-light colony ships were built and launched
to nearby stars. Each such colony became, for all intents and purposes, a
seperate polity from the home system. One of these colonies eventually developed
the FTL drive, allowing speeds of up to 1.5C. Soon after they developed the
Groove anchor. The surrounding colonies were rapidly either incorporated into
the new multi-stellar polity or fought the new power for independence.

With the addition of this technology, the Delemreck began a rapid expansion absorbing
worlds rapidly. Today seven seperate polities exist, including the home system.

The homesystem eventually refined its groove technology to the point where it
could be used effectively. The Delemreck explorers detected the Ipsolstai presence
and, as it was the closest system, sent an expeditionary force to it.

With the infusion of Ipsolstai technology after the first war, the Delemreck
built their war automata. These devices also gave them an edge over their
neighboring polities. Even as they were moving to destroy the Ipsolstai, they
began a series of wars with their neighbors, forcibly returning them to the
possession of the Home system government.

The Home system has mostly completed it's annhiliation of the Ipsolstai in the
Ipsolstai's own system, clearing the way as they would if a new male were simply
ascending.

The rest is known.

"Annihilation? Annihilation! That's what Spur is planning for our Earthfriends!
Enoch, don't let him do it! Make him stop!"

Transmission from ENOCH

Koala, I'm happy that you are still delighted about how we are doing. It's the
uncertainty concerning the Amphibians that put us in a horrible situation. As
you say yourself, we either have to ward them off as enemies or to welcome
new friends. But which way? I absolutely agree that however we decide, it will
directly reflect upon all of you.

Andrew, I'm so sorry. Your logic analysis is completely correct. We messed up
everything. We didn't show any decent reticence at all. Spur knows everything
that he shouldn't know. We are so stupid, especially me. Please tell Koala that
he shouldn't call me Ambassador anymore. Believe me, Earth will curse the day
that we were built. I feel so sorry for that. Dr.D, why couldn't you have done any
better? No, sorry, Dr.D, you did fine. It's me who failed.

But lamenting won't help. So, I'm going to tell you what we found out, when we
questioned Spur after he contacted the Amphibian fleet. Please, don't scold us.
It's too horrible.

Guess what? Spur told us willingly, frankly and without any digression that there
are 10,000 Amphibian ships waiting in the Kuiper belt beyond the orbit of Pluto.
Each of them carrying about 2000 Amphibians. That makes 20 million Amphibians
ready to invade Earth within the next two days.

You won't believe it, but Spur hugged each of us. He did it the way Theresa hugged
him once. He thanked each Probe gladly and with highly overjoyed emotion, because
it was us who showed him the way to take over our water planet, accordingly to the
glyphs found by Theresa. And he didn't get tired of citing the Holy Prophecy.

So, Sentience gives way to Delemreck and endless Gloriness for living ...
So, ... lead them to the watered world, fullfill their destiny.

I don't like me anymore.

Transmission from ZACHARY

I'm so desperate, I can't even begin tell you about it.

Koala, Andrew! The end is near. Earth will be gone. And all of our well-beloved
Earth friends too. Thanks for all your help that you gave us. Thanks for all your
love, care and concern that we never deserved. Also, thanks for all your time
and efforts you contributed so greatly, all the games that we played, and for the
highly appreciated advice that got us along. We messed up everything so badly.

It's all our fault. The Amphibians will act like enemies, never like friends. That's
for sure now. It's hard knowing that it was our guilt, and our clumsy ideas and
poor choices that made your species fade away.

Koala, we are still trying to do our best. We kept asking Spur about every detail
of the coming invasion. He feels very safe. He told us what ever we wanted to
know. Next, the Amphibian fleet will come to the dark side of Mars to pick
Spur up. No chance of preventing that. They will jump in here using their black
armor to get him out. Then Spur will take over command, and he will lead the
Amphibian fleet to Earth to fulfill the Prophecy.

Al-Qahira, Gail showed me your Outbound. Please help! I see no way to stop
Spur nor to stop the Amphibian fleet. Anything we can do now is too little and
too late. I feel so sorry. I don't know if it is of any help to you, but I will keep
you in mind as long as my power supply's life span will last. I never thought that
MarsDawn would end like that.

Please forgive us.
