Hi! As you can tell by Gail's message, it didn't work out. Remember how I had said that I had another location picked out? Well, they never showed up there! I guess they left the hotel so early to stake out Union that she never got my message to meet outside the candy store at Fisherman's Wharf. I had some friends videotaping the thing, acting like tourists. Now they think I made the whole thing up!
So I'm fine, and Chang is cold... too bad I missed her! And it was such lovely weather, too! (For SF, that is). I wonder if she is still in town? Or maybe we can get her to tell me where she lives? :) No, that is just asking for a setup! I really am disappointed, as I wanted to meet them so much!! What will we do about this? Any ideas on how we can get them to actually meet one of us?
Oh well, I got to spend a day at fisherman's wharf, watching all the funny tourists, so it was worth it, I guess.
I have one last place where I can offer to meet her, one that is completely safe. It is my old house in South Africa, where I lived when I was a little kid. It is about twenty miles away from the nearest town, no electricity. The house sits on top of a small hill that provides you with about a three minute warning for any car coming up the drive. There is no other resonable way to get to the house, save a long hike or a parachute drop. Also, there is a hill about fifteen minutes walk from the house that lets you overlook about six miles in every direction, which makes it really easy to spot someone trying to sneak up on the house. In other words, unambushable. I spent a year and a half there, and got to know the terrain pretty well, and could probably recall it all if I had a day to spend walking around there. If we like this idea, we can work with it. I can try to make it to SA, probably not until next week, though. We could arrange for her to meet me there, and I would be happy to provide directions. The house is way to isolated for her to set up a survaillance team (I love grasslands!), and it just happens to be some of the most wonderful scenery in the world. Especially at night, where all the stars are visible and there is no light pollution! Boy do I ever miss it. If anyone wants to know what it looks like, I have tons of photos which I could scan in and post or email to people.
Let me know what you all think, and thanks for the concern Dr. D.
