Actually, I didn't mean the trenches in quite the way you suggested, but that sounds like a workable plan too. What I was thinking was that if we were going to stay and hold our ground, then we should hold it solidly. Otherwise, I would say run far, very far (can we say other hemisphere?) then dig in rock solid over there. Maybe make runs on the tram to pick up spare cp parts for defense.
Of course, if we could figure out how to use the groove, we could just run there, and get far away from everything (or even return to earth)
