Juist beacuse something looks like it from Earth doesn't neccesarily imply there is any connection. Different cultures in different places often develop similar (almost identical on occcasion) artifacts/buildings (i.e pyramids, wheels, etc.) with no contact. And, as far as we know, treads are among the most efficient ways to move along the uneven terrain of Mars. If a society were to lack anti-grav technology, it just might use treads, same with rockets - they could easily be a precursor to energy-based weapons. If the ipsos are an advanced civilization that worships a cup, it is likely that they also had some other gaps in their development. They may have never encountered large, scary-looking weapons, and when the Amphibians arrived on their homewrold with massive, although technologically inferior, weapons the Ipsos would have found them terrifying. If the phibs had a large numbers advantage, it would have been very difficult for the ipsos to recover in time to survive and protect their home world.
I'd say before we blow the destructor base to pieces we should try to find the command center and in it find the person/thing controlling all this development. Opinions?
