<P>Juist beacuse something looks like it from Earth doesn't neccesarily imply there is any connection. Different cultures in different places often develop similar (almost identical on occcasion) artifacts/buildings (i.e pyramids, wheels, etc.) with no contact. And, as far as we know, treads are among the most efficient ways to move along the uneven terrain of Mars. If a society were to lack anti-grav technology, it just might use treads, same with rockets - they could easily be a precursor to energy-based weapons. If the ipsos are an advanced civilization that worships a cup, it is likely that they also had some other gaps in their development. They may have never encountered large, scary-looking weapons, and when the Amphibians arrived on their homewrold with massive, although technologically inferior, weapons the Ipsos would have found them terrifying. If the phibs had a large numbers advantage, it would have been very difficult for the ipsos to recover in time to survive and protect their home world.
<BR>I'd say before we blow the destructor base to pieces we should try to find the command center and in it find the person/thing controlling all this development. Opinions?
