Could not a probe (or even a drone) be carefully sent into the pit to check the c-probes wiring a la Grand zero's suggestion? I think we could make use of c-probe in light of ominous, warning-like nature of Daniel's transmission. Maybe the pinging from the c-lander could be jammed to cut off it's communications with the trapped probe. Just a thought.
