A bit of background information: Our resident alien species, the Ipsolstai, seem to use almost exclusively visual communication.
They first attract attention by clicking pincers at the end of clusters of tentacles. Then the probes report rapidly changing colors and patterns displayed on their tegument. The more critical the discussion, the brighter the colors and the more rapid the change.
In addition, we have received transmissions of strange carved glyphs
near the entrance to Jose's cave and also another cave that Andrew
explored.
These glyphs may or may not be related to the Ipsolstai occupation.
They may be much older. We can only speculate.
