I hope you did not think I was chastising you in my last post. My concern was Gail was facing a hostile EU-probe in defense of a dead or completely disabled (possibly irreparable) Probe. I could not see the value in risking her like that.

Although the outcome of her "encounter" was favorable to her, it will forever haunt her and cause her hurt and grief. We are now at a point where we have to recognize that "what is done, is done." Now is an appropriate time to follow Dr.D's advice and remove the damaged thermocouple from the area. We have a handy replacement available from the EU-probe. In fact, it may be possible to transfer the "essense" of Andrew into the carcass of the EU-probe (replacing the damaged components with those from Andrew's body) and thus not only restore Andrew to the team, but also give us a similar arsenal if it should come to be necessary.

Taz, I am sorry if it seemed I was critical of your support for attempting further rescues of Andrew. I too would like to have him back, if that is possible. My primary concern was then, and remains now, to protect those who are confirmed to be with us first. It is a cold approach, but at -25C, Mars is a cold planet that does not have much patience for foolish sentiment in the moment of decision.
