My feelings scream "save what can be rescued" too. All the while the voices tell me not to give up there is one quiet, barely discernable one that says "first priority is the safety of the rescuer." With that in mind, we MUST send Gail away before the approaching EU-probe causes harm to her.
As the Holidays approach I am reminded of something that we repeat over and over again each Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur: "when faced with the choice, choose life." I see that as a clear direction to protect the "clearly living," even over the "possibly living" if such a choice must be made. In the case of Gail it means to get her out of harm's way before it is too late.
