IF (and that’s a BIG IF) the EU probes have survived their landing, determining their intent is most important prior to providing assistance. As I recall, the original six Mars probes did not achieve sentience until Jose updated their AI software. Is there any reason to suspect that the EU probes are any more than "Dumb" probes? The software that Jose uploaded to the probes may have died with him. If this is the case, the only good that can come from the EU probes is in becoming "Organ Donors" to help repair Daniel and now possibly Gail. We might ask "Our" probes if it is possible to update the EU probes with the Enhanced AI software that Jose sent them. If that’s not possible, then "Parts is Parts"! We should just "Part Out" the EU probes and tell P&H their latest mission is a bust.
The Ipsos have said they can’t put Daniel back to his original configuration. This may be because of the damage he sustained. If they had the EU probes for parts, perhaps Daniel could be repaired. This might also allow for Gail to be repaired should we find she has been seriously damaged in a rock slide or through some other as yet unknown scenario. With any luck, Gail is just stuck in the rocks and can’t transmit for some easily rectified reason.
Let’s not be to quick to judge the EU probes. I think the Polar Bear analogy should be kept in mind! Some bears make good rugs!
