How did Bette manage to surprise Andrew? He should have been able to "taste" her approach and expressed surprise at his inability to do so. That suggests to me that she has received some kind of "gift" from the ETs.

I call it a gift because it may be the key to our Probes' being able to evade and protect themselves from the EU-probes. If the gift does not interfere with the function and personality of the Probes (which *appears* to be the case with Bette) then it could be a really positive advancement for them.

Before I ask Andrew to investigate this possibility, I have a few questions for DrD and Redwing:

1) Can a Probe scan specific components of another Probe? I.E. can Andrew scan each CPU to identify any changes or replacements in Bette?

2) Can a Probe run the equiv. of the POST (power on self test) without actually rebooting? It may be very informative for Andrew to scan the components as Bette reports their being tested and their current status.

3) Can Zachary scan for transmissions at frequencies other than the "standard" ones? I am curious as to whether or not the communications between Daniel and the Ipsolstia may be read directly and possibly translated internally.

4) What additional self diagnostics may Bette need to run if all examinations by Andrew prove to be inconclusive?

With Andrew and Bette now together, I think another attempt to transmit a compressed message is in order. This will settle once and for all the question of whether or not the caves were causing interference. If it is still unsuccessful then we have to consider that there is something wrong and assess the consequences.
