The problem is that there is nothing there to make the conversion from CO2 to C. CO2 is a VERY stable substance and it takes significant energy to reduce it even to CO and much more to C. I'm not saying that's not happening. It's just that there was nothing in the cave (as reported by the probes) that would do that.

I dunno...I guess we'll figure it out sooner or later. Perhaps it has to do with the ozone smell. I can see how ozone might be a product or by-product of that reaction.
