Obviously humans are not the amphibians that hurt their homeworld since we have no means of interstellar travel. We need to make sure that they understand that Enoch and the other probes, even Gen, were not built by the amphibians. We also need to make sure they understand that the humans who built Gen did not know the ETs existed and so did not program Gen to deal with them. (I would be willing to bet that Gen has been programmed to shoot at the Brace probes with no provision for what to do if it encounters an entity that is not-probe. Not evil, but short-sighted and therefore dangerous.)

Here's a possible response (I'll address the Bette issue in a separate post).

"I understand. Groove is how you traveled from your homeworld to here. Groove is how amphibians traveled to your homeworld. I am sorry amphibians hurt your homeworld. We were not sent by amphibians. We were sent by humans. Humans homeworld is Earth, the third planet from the Sun. They sent us to explore this planet, Mars, fourth planet from the Sun. We did not know you are here until you hurt Bette. How did we wake you?"
