The J-probe fired shots NOT at the first thing that moved (that was the fan) but at the first sign of life. That's not faulty AI, it's hostile. Period.
When something or someone is armed and less than stable - a la Gen - you CANNOT let your guard down at ANY time. Hoping that there is some goodness deep inside is fine....once it has been disarmed.
So let's not think of the J-probe as good or evil. It is dangerous. And it needs to be treated that way until it is made harmless by whatever means.
