I like the backwards scan theory, but I see a couple of problems with it. For one thing, who's to say that the ETs video screens use an electron gun? And even if it does use something like an electron gun, who's to say that it scans in horizontal lines in the same or even mirrored pattern? Why not vertically? I have a vague memory of reading that the scan pattern for TV sets and for computer screens is slightly different causing a potential problem for implementing Web TV until the TV and computer industries agreed on a standard, so it would be an amazing coincidence if the ETs had settled on something even remotely similar. Also, since the ETs have one of their cameras pointed at Earth, wouldn't they have noticed that their pictures were mirror images of those sent back by Apllo astronauts and adjusted accordingly?
