Land mines would be a good idea if it weren't for the ETs. Until Enoch can communicate quickly and efficiently with them and without misunderstanding, there is no way for us to tell the ETs that the land mines are defense against the J-probe. I shudder to think what would happen if a big tram (or other vehicle) full of EBEs comes out to investigate the diggings and stumbles across a land mine.

What about bridges that are just strong enough to accomodate one probe at a time but will collapse under the J-probe's weight? In the interim we can think of something else for when the EU-probes arrive.
