I would assume (I know, I know...) that the ETs are asking why the probes have come.  Since one of the overriding reasons for sending a mission to Mars was to "seek out new life and new civilizations" how about if we just have Enoch start by scratching the word "FRIENDS" on the wall?  I'll ask Zachary to communicate his new "code" to the other probes, especially Enoch.
