The "fields of fire" which Taz indicates are so valued by the military are ONLY valuable if you have a way to attack the aproaching enemy. Without an ability to do anything about the aproaching enemy, the "field of fire" simply means you are out in the open without any defense. In other words - a sitting duck. When faced with superior fire power (we have none), the best defense is to hide.

T
