There are two reasons I can see not to move the platform.

1) It is damaged and may become more damaged in moving it.

2) The idea of keeping it in the open has the merits Taz has enumerated (nice job, Taz). Moving it to a canyan eliminates the line of sight advantage and puts us in a possible trap of our own making.

The only viable alternative that I see to leaving it in the open is to bury it under rock and sand where it cannot be easily reached but can still send and receive data for us. The question is how on Mars could we move it there if it is so difficult to approach? The drones are likely less capable of dealing with rough terrain than the oppononents from whom we want to protect the platform. I just don't see moving it to be to out advantage.

I am not yet ready to relegate it to Decoy Status. As long as it is useful, it is worth keeping. But if we are faced with a chess match where a piece must be sacrificed, I would think it is a likey candidate.

Just my $.02 worth.
