Was no one else shocked to see ETs writing English?<p>They didn't get it from the probes.  The probes can't write English.  They don't have the concept of a written alphabet, although we have tried to explain it.<p>Where did they get it?  Have they been watching Earth broadcasts?  What made them think the probes would understand written English?  (I would have tried a couple of languages, just to be sure.)<p>Do they have a Star Trek universal translator that works on dirt scratches?  Is one of them travelling with Dr. Who?  It seems like you're all assuming something like that!<p>-E
