The short answer is "We don't".  It seems obvious, maybe only to me, that these ETs are superior technologically speaking to us.  If they are related/connected to the ETs that took Bette, I really don't see how we can stop them, if that is really what they want to do.  One shot from the light weapon, and all the probes are immobilized.  That is why I think making contact at this point is imperative.
