There have been numerous lapses in communication from the probes - not only in the cave. Occasionally, probe transmissions have "gaps" which seem to corrispond with them being distracted. If Bette was involved in devising a way to help Enoch (Seemed to be a VERY high priority for her) it seems reasonable that she would ignore our transmissions and neglect to respond until the job was done.
