Could the fuzzy metal be a screen? Should we have them check out the fuzzy metal thing and whether they can go further in that direction before we send them down the hatch?
If it is a hatch, I'm all for sending them down it. However, we should 1.) make sure we're not overlooking something behind the second fan, 2.) decide now whether B or E should go on alone should it turn out that going in the hatch cuts them off from Zachary and come up with a logical reason for our choice. I would send Enoch first because speed is not really important in exploring, but would be important should he get into trouble and need another probe to come help him (namely Bette).
