I agree with what you said--it makes sense that Daniel is still inside the landing probe. If his transmitter was damaged during landing, then he never received the "wakeup" call the others did.
Ah, hold everything! I just saw Gail's transmission from today where she says

So Daniel's not there. Maybe it's possible to fix the transmitter so we can at least know that Daniel is receiving our transmissions.
I won't say anything crucial, just more of the "We're here, where are you" messages you've been sending. We can discuss other options when you get back.
