It was inevitable that this would happen and you should not feel badly that you were the first to do it. The sophistication of the probes is truly remarkable. They appear as self-aware as any young child. That, in fact, may be the key to keeping control of the situation. Children latch onto the idea of "Mommy" or "Daddy" fairly quickly even though the question of "where do I come from" may wait quite some time to be asked. The probes appear to be on the verge of the intellectual age at which it would be appropriate for them to ask such a question. It is very important that we give them honest answers to those questions. We rely upon their willingness to accept our requests but we cannot expect such willingness if we openly deceive them. Your revelation to Bette may be just the push towards our acceptance
that was needed. At the very least, once she has digested the implications, Bette may be more flexible in fulfilling our requests. We also have some breathing room because the only interraction between the probes right now does not appear to include deep philosophical discussions on "who is their Mommy or Daddy?"
Keep your towel handy and DON'T PANIC! Everything is likely to work out.
