Your point about the MNs is well taken. Not enough attention has been given to that aspect. I think part of the problem is that none of us have figured out a means of physically protecting the communications platform or the probes themselves. The drones do not appear to be controllable to the extent that they can be made impervious to the control of the MNs' probes. That makes them as much a potential liability as an asset.

There was one suggestion of moving the communications equipment into one of the caves. That might work, but it will definitely ensure a blackout for the time it takes to do it (do I hear a motion to schedule this for a weekend?), and we cannot be certain 'the Dungeon Master may not give us an adverse roll of the dice' and declare the transmitter or receiver does not function. I would predict only the transmiter would fail, not both. Otherwise we are completely cut off and unable to provide suggestions to make it work. [Is that PROACTIVE enough? ]

The staff cannot be expected to carry out plans that we have not formulated. However, the fact that we have not formulated them may indicate that we have not perceived the tools necessary to be able to conceive of a workable plan. As I have already said, the physical safety of the assets (probes, comm. platform, etc) is in serious doubt. I think many of us are pinning our hopes on a quick peace treaty and alliance with the ETs. That would seem to be our best chance now. Even if we cannot achieve it, even if the communications platform is destroyed, there are enough pieces out there for our clever probes to discover another means of reaching us - you DO remember the facinating devices Bette found before going 'downstairs' and getting into trouble. What if that equipment could be used by the probes to talk to us? It could be a supplement to the current equipment or a replacement if the lander cannot be saved.

I have tried to provide some ideas here. I have also tried to demonstrate that we cannot be expected to create solutions where we do not believe we have the necessary information. Perhaps we needs some serendipity to guide us? Stranger things have been known to happen.

For the record. I think you and the rest of the staff have been doing a great job of incorporating our input into the story. It has been quite refreshing to know that most of what we post drives the story. Please keep up the good work.
