On most issues, I would agree with you. But where do we draw the line. My daughter, who is now 13, surpassed my wife in stature at the age of 12. So what is next, are they going to tell me my wife can't ride in the front passenger seat? Are they going to set height and weight restrictions on the front seat? If it is truly the suicide seat, why not legislate taking it out altogether? Personally, I would rather have my 6yr old son in the front seat next to me if we are the only ones in the car. He can see better and therefore is more likely to sit still and NOT mess with the safety belt (one concession I have made, everyone should wear seat belts). I can also see him, and therefore make sure he is sitting still and not messing with the seatbelt.

When I was growing up, we never had child safety seats, and very rarely, if ever used the seat belts. Although nothing major, we survived several minor auto accidents, with nary a scratch to show for it. I just believe that my safety and the safety of my family is MY responsibility, not the governments. (Yes, I believe in having a strong and pro-active police force and military. But they have enough to do without making sure that my daughter sitting next to me is 13 and not 12.)
