The not so simple answer is yes and no. AOL4free is not a virus in and of itself. It was apparently (note the past tense) the title of an email that had an attachment. It was the attachment that had the virus. People who thought that they could get in on this scam to get AOL for free would download the attachment and run it, causing damage to their data. If memory serves me correctly, however, it didn't run a deltree, it was something less harmful.

But I don't think it exists anymore. This was not a self-perpetuating virus. Once it was eradicated, that was that. Gone. Extinct.

Always remember, email itself is innocuous...but never, ever download an attachment that was not requested or comes from a stranger, especially if it has the extension .exe, .com or .bat. THAT is the only way you're going to get a virus via email.
