That is a terrific idea. I would like to express my wholehearted support and offer whatever I can to make it possible.
This could grow into quite a volunteer effort. I know that some hospitals do not have good facilities for the doctors to gain access to the Internet let alone the patients. We may find the project expanding to make that possible.
I suggest we form committees to oversee the major aspects of this project. I think they might be:
Outreach
Locate and screen candidate hospitals or centers.
Logistics
Arrange for the transportation and installation of any required equipment.
Training
Arrange for the delivery of (written, telephone, in-person) training materials for the kids. We should expect that many of them will not have any idea how to use the equipment.
Quartermaster
Locate equipment (PCs, modems, etc) that indivduals or organizations would be willing to donate for this purpose. They would also be responsible for verifying the equipment is in proper working order.
Subcommittees:
PCs (including QA and Repairs)
Modems and cables
Telephone lines
I would like to volunteer my services for the QA and Repairs subcommittee. I already do this kind of work out of my home for friends and members of my computer club so it would not be a big stretch for me to expand for this worthy effort.
Who else would like to volunteer? We need a coordinator (or two or three); any takers?
This is a great idea. Let's give it our all.
