Ok, I assume this will be an unpopular idea - but here goes!
How about paid membership for some levels of access:
Level 1 - Lurker: Free
Level 2 - Enlisted: Free
Level 3 - Teammate: Paid membership
Level 4 - Coordinator: Included with above membership
Level 5 - Officer: Included with above OR extra charge
This would effectivly limit access to the probes to paid members - eliminating many problems associated with hit-and-run posters.
Again, I do not want to ailenate anyone - so the costs would be kept low (and would likely include a hat or something).
