Normally the factorization and cancellation in steps 4 and 5 would be completely valid, but as you correctly observed when the restriction A=B is imposed, then factoring out A-B means dividing by "ZERO" which is "by definition", undefined.

I knew all that math I took back in high school would come in handy someday. I use it everyday to help my kids with their homework.
