Meanwhile, Andrew has found out how to work the alien vidscreen in order to observe the surface of Mars in detail. Gail asks him to use it to locate and track the new arrival to Mars, a Japanese probe that claims ownership of all discoveries.
Zachary dutifully moves the communications platform towards the side-canyon that Gail has found. He wonders about finding and using more of the alien technology for helping the probes move faster. He can see that danger is now a factor in everything the probes do, and is planning ahead.
